He got breakfast in bed. Waffles, juice, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. All from the luxury of mom and dad’s bed.
We kicked off the day’s festivities by opening a present from our Grammy. A kitchen! We got to talk to her on skype and show her all the things we liked about our new toy.
Then it was time to get down to business. We had a party to prepare for… entirely Mickey Mouse themed, of course.
We had to get dressed for the part.
Mom and dad had spent the night decorating and making delicious food, but they still had to put on the final touches before our guests arrived.
Tennyson got to help put up the balloons. Which meant, he got to play a lot with the balloons until mom and dad said it was time to stop because they needed to tie them up.
It wasn’t long before all our friends and family showed up. We got to eat hot dogs (because those are Mickey’s favorite), and all sorts of other yummy foods.
But the party really got started when dad turned on Tennyson’s brand new bubble machine.
Things just kept getting better from there. We opened all our presents. Tennyson got some cool stuff. A new trike, some high tech bath toys, a car tower (and cars to go with it!), and a golf set. The golf set was a hit. Tennyson and his friend were pros in no time.
The only problem was that she kept hitting the balls under the couch. Luckily, Tennyson was a gentleman and fetched them for her every time.
We finished off the party with cake. We learned that Tennyson still hasn’t gotten over his fear of the song “Happy Birthday”. Or his desire to put out candles with his hands.
But apparently he has gotten over his fear of cake. This year, he requested to eat the cake by himself.
He started by just picking off the sprinkles.
Once Mike handed him a fork, the game changed. He could now eat cake to his heart’s content without getting his hands dirty.
And eat he did.
After the party, it was time for a long nap. Once we were rested up, we went to Red Robin to finish the birthday celebrations. Tennyson decided to eat grandpa’s clam strips for dinner. Two year olds are much too sophisticated for pizza. He almost got a balloon, but it deflated on the way out of the restaurant. (Which didn’t phase him, because we had quite the fiasco with balloons at his party. Our basement ceiling will pop any balloon that comes in contact with it.)
Somehow, after all that excitement, Tennyson still had the energy for a long bath. He played with his new toys in the tub for nearly an hour. Then he was too wrinkled and mom and dad said, “get out!”
All that was left was to get into his pajamas, jump on mom and dad’s bed a little bit, and the day was over.
It was the greatest day any two year old could have asked for. We are glad we got to share it with him.
