Tennyson, my mom, and I all went to Utah for a visit this past weekend. We had a long day of travel to get there (snowstorms, accidents, flights, etc.). But once we got there, we had so much fun.
Tennyson got to play with my Grandma Golda and Aunt Susan. His Great-Grandma and Great-Great-Aunt. This Dopey toy that he is playing with is now in its third generation. My dad played with it when he was younger, I played with it when visiting grandma, and now it is Tennyson’s turn!
Tennyson also got to see his other great-grandparents. We spent some time playing at their apartment. Tennyson was unsure about Jake, their dog. He would call the dog over, but then if Jake got too close, he would get scared and start to cry. But as soon as Jake was far away again, Tennyson acted like they were best friends.
We went to lunch with my grandparents and my cousin Jenny skipped school so she could see Tennyson. They had so much fun together. Jenny even used some of her new preschool skills to read Tennyson his books. Jenny and my aunt Carol also taught Tennyson how to play patty cake.
We went out to lunch one day with my cousin Whitney and her new husband Troy. We drove all the way up to Logan and checked out their new apartment before going to eat at the Blue Bird (a restaurant that has been around since forever and came highly recommended by my grandpa Ed). It was great to see them! The food was excellent and they had amazing, and very huge, rolls. While I was busy talking to Whitney and Troy, Tennyson snagged one off the table and started shoving it in his mouth. He loved it!
We spent Sunday morning visiting my great-aunt Ester. She loved Tennyson! Unfortunately, all of her toys were out of batteries. Tennyson didn’t notice though. He also really loved her cat (and wasn’t nearly as scared as he was of Jake the dog because cats don’t bark). Every time the cat came by, Tennyson would stick out his arm to pet him.
Tennyson had the most fun playing with cousins. On Sunday night, he got to play with the twins Riley and Jackson. They had a lot of fun playing with cups and climbing all over everything. My cousins also learned that if they ran in circles around Tennyson and then fell down in front of him, he would laugh, so they spent a good amount of the night doing so.
We also spent some time visiting his uncle Paul and aunt Lindsey and our friends Adam and Heather. He got to play with his friend Bryce (who is a few months younger than him) as well. Uncle Paul kept trying to get Tennyson to wear a Red Sox hat, but Tennyson was smart and kept removing it. Small victories.
The morning before we left, we met up with the twins again and went to the children’s museum. At first they played in a room that had a lot of balls everywhere that they could throw and kick and pick up.
Once that got crowded, we moved to the 2 and under room. They had all sorts of stuff to do! It was a lot of fun. Tennyson spent a lot of time on his own because he hadn’t figured out how to crawl yet (which he can do now!) and they kept leaving him. But then the twins would see a cool toy Tennyson had and they would get jealous and go play with him. Tennyson and Jackson had a good time playing together.
There was also a water table at the museum that we tried to have the kids play in. Riley was not interested at all. Tennyson made it clear he would only be interested if he could play in it with his entire body. Jackson thought it was interesting to eat.
Tennyson’s favorite part of the children’s museum was the bubbles. They had bubbles that wouldn’t pop when they touched something (but they would pop if someone purposely popped them). Tennyson sat in the middle of where they were falling and tried to grab them all. He thought they were the coolest thing on the planet.
After the children’s museum, we went to lunch at California Pizza Kitchen (or as my mom says, California Pizza Company). The three high chairs at our table looked a little comical. Especially since about halfway into the meal, they were all empty. Jackson and Tennyson were so tired from the children’s museum that they fell asleep in our arms and Riley circled around the table eating all the food he could find.
It was such a fun trip!! We can’t wait to get out to Utah again!
