two and a half.

my little man is two and a half.
is that right? it can't possibly be.
i'm pretty sure we just celebrated his birthday last week.
my, how having a baby will make time fly.

was this really half a year ago already?

so much has changed in the last six months.
like he's talking now. sort of.
every day he gets the hang of it a little more.
when he turned two, he had maybe five words.
now we have all sorts of words.
we even have a few phrases.

he's learned so much in the past six months.
now he knows all his letters.
he knows all his numbers one through twenty.
he knows his shapes.
and he knows his colors.

he's really branched out lately with his tv watching.
and in the past six months we've gone through a lot of phases.
we went from watching only mickey mouse to only watching daniel tiger's neighborhood.
and from there we moved on to blues clues.
we went through a short yo gabba gabba stint.
and an arthur stint.
and now we've moved back to blues clues. nothing like the classics.

we've gone through several movie phases as well.
the lion king.
toy story 3.
finding nemo.
and up and monsters inc. have always been welcomed with open arms.
we are a disney family.

at this age, tennyson loves mcdonalds. he loves our ipad and his sister. he loves coloring and playing with his rice bin. he loves footballs and soccer balls and going bowling. he loves the park and being outside. he loves playing with cars and animals. he loves the zoo. he loves clif bars and waffles and juicy juice. he loves his music class and his friends. he loves trains and trucks.

at this age, tennyson hates trying new foods. he hates anything wet or squishy and he hates getting messy. he hates getting his hair washed or brushed and having his nails clipped.

the one thing that hasn't changed is just how quirky our little boy is. he marches to the beat of his own drum. it means that some things don't come as easy to us. we've had to work extremely hard to get him talking the way he is. we are still working extremely hard at getting him to eat and touch messy things. we've struggled trying to get him to feed himself with a fork and trying to teach him to drink from a cup. but it also means that some things just come naturally. he taught himself all his numbers and letters. he's doing things that most kids don't learn for another year or so. he's an expert at sorting colors, finding patterns, and seeing small details. he'll be one of those kids who teaches himself how to read. i'm sure of it.

and his quirks make me happy. he makes me laugh. because he just does things, and all i can do is laugh and wonder what in the world was going on in his little head.

we sure do love our little man. i hope the next six months don't fly by as fast as these last ones did, but i'm sure they will. and we'll have to start worrying about things like potty training and preschool and i'll wonder once again where the time has gone.

sometimes i just want him to stay little forever.
