Minnetonka Caves

One of the things we did while in Bear Lake was tour the Minnetonka Caves. There were 444 steps one way, so we had pretty tired legs when we were done. It was also forty degrees inside the cave so it was a nice break from the hot summer sun. We went earlier in the day to get tickets and it was a good thing because when we got there around one, tours were sold out until five thirty. Luckily, they had two spots left in the five o’clock tour, so we bought tickets, went home, grabbed some stuff, and got back in plenty of time for the tour. Get an idea

Before I start posting about the things we did while we were at Bear Lake, I wanted you to have an appreciation for how pretty and wonderful everything is up there. For that reason, I’m going to include in this post some of my favorite nature pictures we have from our trip.

 

Bear Lake

This past weekend was Mike’s and my first anniversary. We spent the weekend up in Bear Lake at my grandma’s property. It was beautiful up there.

Obviously I have much more to say about this trip than just that, but it’ll come in a series of posts, most likely not in chronological order but instead in the order I get my pictures edited.

Yippee-ki-yay

Mike and I just finished watching our second full movie series (the first was the Bourne series, which I never blogged about). We watched the Die Hard quadrilogy (which is my way of saying there were four movies). Here is a little summary of each movie by me, and a picture for each (which will show you the progression of Bruce Willis from the 80s to now).

Die Hard

It's Christmas Eve (probably 1988... my first Christmas as a human being on this planet). John McClane flies to visit his wife (who has been estranged). Everyone is held hostage. John is loose in the buiding. John finds bad guys. John kills bad guys. John kills bad guys in an elevator shaft. John's wife decides she wants to go by Holly McClain instead of by her maiden name she was using before. John saves the day. Yippee-ki-yay.

It's Christmas Eve (1989, although the movie was actually released in 1990). John is on his way to pick up his wife from the airport. John's wife is in air. John sees a bad guy. The bad guy tries to take over the airport. The bad guy wants a drug dealer. John sees more bad guys. John kills the bad guys. John kills a bad guy in an elevator shaft. John blows up the bad guys' plane. Holly's plane lands safely. John saves the day. Yippee-ki-yay.

It's probably summer (1995). John McClane is two steps away from being a full blown alcoholic. Make that one. John has no wife. A bad guy blows up a building. The bad guy calls NYPD and wants to talk to John. John accepts the call. John gets sucked into a game of Simon Says. John almost gets killed by angry black guys but Zeus (Samuel L. Jackson) saves the day. Now Zeus must play Simon Says. The bad guy is the brother of the bad guy in the first movie. The bad guy wants money. John kills bad guys. John kills bad guys in an elevator. John stops the bad guy from getting the money. John saves the day. Yippee-ki-yay.

Live Free or Die Hard

It is summer (2007). John is spying on his daughter. His daughter uses her mom's maiden name. John gets a call on the way home. The police want John to pick up a bad guy. John goes to pick up the bad guy. The bad guy isn't really a bad guy. John and the "bad guy" get shot at by the real bad guys. John kills bad guys. John takes the "bad guy" to the FBI. The FBI doesn't want the "bad guy" because he isn't a bad guy. The bad guys destroy traffic. The bad guys shut down communication. John kills bad guys. John and the "bad guy" visit the warlock. John and the "bad guy" figure out the bad guys' next move. John and the "bad guy" find out the bad guys have John's daughter. John goes to save her daughter. John kills bad guys in an elevator shaft. John saves daughter. John's daughter says her last name is McClane. John saves the day. Yippee-ki-yay.

July the fourth

As you well know, yesterday was the fourth of July. It was a good day. Mike had to work until 4:30, so we didn’t do much until later in the day. But once he got off work, we met up with David and Kaitlyn and we grilled up some burgers and had a nice dinner, played a couple of games of Munchkin, and then joined the rest of Provo in American festivities. The first thing we did was walk around the vendors/carnival. Mike won a water gun by doing a strongman competition.

And boy, was he ever strong.

We wanted a Brazilian lemonade from the Tucanos stand, but they were all out. So we were sad.

And then Mike and I tried out the stocks.

On our way back to David and Kaitlyn’s place, we stopped by 7-11 to get some slurpees. I got the new GI Joe inspired flavor, which turned my mouth a lovely shade of blue (although I don’t know why the slurpee was blue because it was strawberry pineapple lime flavor).

After we finished our slurpees we went to find a spot to watch the fireworks. We ended up getting a GREAT spot (which relatively no one went to because last year there were buildings where we were sitting). Every other spot around campus was jammed pack with people sitting shoulder to shoulder, but we had enough space to spread out blankets and play card games (until it got too dark).

Then, we watched the fireworks. I’m really still impressed with how great of spots we got.

 

It was a really good day, overall. We had a lot of fun.
